How to start a small business is one of the most searched terms on the internet. With recession still very much in evidence and people being nervous about the future of the economy it on first sight looks like an option. First though you need to sit down and have a conversation with yourself about what it actually involves.
I know I started my own business a few years back and was in for a number of shocks. Including the fact that if you don’t work you will not get paid. No salary or pay check arrives through the door. So let’s consider 3 questions.
1. Do I want to have my own business or just make more money?
There is a lot of information on the internet about how to start a small business. Is that what you really want. If it is just extra cash there are lots of other things to consider first. If you want to start your own business you will need lots of energy and enthusiasm to get you through. It is not all plain sailing so it has to be something that you enjoy. Believe me it is possible. I left a corporate life after 27 years and now earn an income doing many different things all that I enjoy. Sit down and make a list of your strength, ideas you have had and then start researching. Don’t do anything or make any rash decisions until you have done this.
3. How much Money do you have?
When you are thinking about how to start a small business, cash will come into the equation. The classic bricks and mortar business takes a large investment of cash up front followed by time to move into profit. The quickest way to get up and running is an online business. Relatively speaking it is inexpensive. If you are really motivated you can do a lot of the work yourself and there are literally hundreds of free tools on line. For the cost of a domain name and hosting you can be up and running.
Does it take work? Of course it does. Though the great thing is you can do it part time till it brings in enough income to sustain you and your family. Search online for some information and guidance from a reputable source and you will save yourself hours of pain. Take action and you will be surprised how quickly it will come together.
